Southwestern University, located in Georgetown, Texas has an immediate opening for the On-Call Custodian position. The position will be on a need only and will perform all responsibilities in accordance with the standards and instructions established by the department. The On-Call Custodian position will perform the tasks and activities associated with cleaning and maintaining assigned areas. This is a non-benefited on-call position who reports to the Supervisor of Custodial Services.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining all and schedule buildings assigned by the Supervisor of Custodial Services or through a Lead Custodian.
  • Familiarity with institutional custodial equipment and cleaning techniques for residential and/or commercial buildings.
  • Performs cleaning duties such as (mop, dust, vacuum, vents, fixtures, etc.).
  • Maintains custodial supplies, equipment, and closets in a neat and organized manner.
  • Gathers and empties trash outside assigned buildings.
  • Safeguards keys and university property.
  • Inspects and maintains equipment that is used and determines needs for repairs before and after use.
  • Observes and reports to Supervisor of Custodial and/or Lead custodian, any and all defects, deterioration, wear and tear of facilities.
  • May require to work weekends or longer hours depending on emergencies, events, and/or need to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to lift and handle up to 50lbs.
  • Participates in safety training programs.
  • Assists other departments, with approved training when needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 6 months - 1 years’ experience in custodial experience.
  • Ability to handle confidentiality information.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Comply with safety programs.
  • Possess strong effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple task while still producing a reliable work product.
  • Must be flexible and reliable.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays.
  • Possess knowledge, understanding and comply with the University’s safety regulations and safety related programs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry 50lbs.
  • Bend, stoop, stand, kneel, and reach.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in custodial experience.
  • Valid Texas driver license, good standing record with DMV, and meets standards for University’s insurance carrier.
