Southwestern University’s Distinctive Collections & Archives is home to a series of letters between Pearl Alma Neas, Lyndon Baines Johnson, and Lady Bird Johnson. A native of nearby Liberty Hill, Texas, Neas joined the Southwestern staff in 1913, quickly working her way up from stenographer to secretary to assistant registrar. In 1923, she became the University’s first female registrar, holding the position until her passing in 1962. One of Southwestern’s longest-tenured employees, she significantly shaped the history of the University and the greater Georgetown community in her nearly 50 years on campus.
