How to Apply 

Required Materials:

• Application for Admission: Complete and submit all parts of the application for admission, including the activities list. Southwestern recognizes and values a student’s academic achievements and leadership in their school and community.
• Application Essay: The written essay is a great way to showcase more information about yourself and your writing.
• High School Transcript: This must be received directly from your school or counselor in order to be considered official. Transcripts may be submitted via: email, Slate.org, or via mail to the Office of Admission.

Optional Materials:

• Letter(s) of Recommendation: We will accept recommendation letters from a teacher, mentor, counselor, coach or other school official.
• Admission Interview: Interviews are a great way to personalize your application and share more about your high school journey with us. An admission application is required to schedule a virtual interview.

Standardized Test Scores & Test-Optional Philosophy

Southwestern has a test-optional admission policy for all candidates. At the time of submitting an application, candidates must choose whether or not they wish SAT or ACT scores to be considered as a factor in their admission and merit scholarship review process. Our middle 50% of test-scores is 1160-1320 for SAT and 24-30 for ACT.

Southwestern will accept a student Score Report that an applicant has downloaded from the College Board or ACT websites. Southwestern will also accept official scores that appear on a student’s high school transcript. College Board SAT Subject Tests are not required. Southwestern will Superscore your submitted test-scores for you.

Where to Send Admission Materials

Applicants will gain access to their Personal Application Portal to determine whether their application is complete prior to the deadline.

Official Transcripts, Test Scores, Recommendation Letters and Essays can be mailed to:

Official high school transcripts can also be submitted electronically by a student’s school via TREx, Parchment, eSCRIP-SAFE, The National Student Clearinghouse Transcript Ordering Service, or other online transcript services.

• Uploaded to Slate.org  (school counselor use only)
