Southwestern University, located in Georgetown has an immediate opening for an Associate Director of the Center for Career & Professional Development. This position empowers students and alumni to shape their professional identities, develop career-readiness skills, and construct well-managed professional lives by providing advising, programming, and resources to explore education and career options, and engage in successful searches for employment. This is a full-time, fully benefited, exempt position who reports to the Director of the Center for Career & Professional Development.
Primary Duties:
- Provides career advising and referrals to assist students and alumni with the career development process, including clarifying objectives, obtaining occupational/industry information, and making the transition from college to career.
- Plans logistical and programmatic elements of CCPD’s on-campus and online programming and events, including job fairs, workshops, panels, and other office presentations and programs.
- Leads the development and implementation of student-alumni professional mentoring programs including recruitment and orientation of students, recruitment of alumni volunteers, coordination of mentor matching, and development of in-person networking events.
- Provides lead support for office enterprise technology resources related to student career development and serves as a point of contact for third party technology companies as well as Information Technology department.
- Provides support to employers, students, alumni, and campus offices related to enterprise technology products run by the CCPD.
- Helps students develop and refine resume writing, interviewing, and job-search skills.
- Troubleshoots concerns and inquiries by alumni, parents, students, and employers.
- Supports department marketing strategy through efforts with social and campus media.
- Participates in strategic planning and contributes input to develop and achieve objectives.
- Troubleshoots concerns and inquiries by alumni, parents, students, and employers.
- Capitalizes on campus partners’ and alumni knowledge of professional/personal networks.
- Assists in design of database management systems, including policies and procedures for data collection and management; develops mechanisms for tracking and reporting data/statistics.
- Assists with other Student Life efforts as needed.
- Connects with employers to create networking and employment opportunities.
- Provides guidance and projects to student employees as needed.
- Reviews and evaluates career development assessment tools and resources.
- May serve as liaison to student groups, clubs, and organizations.
- May assist with design of curriculum, comprising career exploration and career management topics.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum of three to five years of post-graduate work experience.
- Knowledge of career-development theory and application and basic understanding of and commitment to value of career competencies and career-readiness skills.
- Ability to have professional manner with all internal and external University constituencies, including strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, listening).
- Previous experience working with mentoring programs.
- Initiative and creativity to develop and spearhead new projects.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Discernment; ability to make independent judgements.
- Demonstrate leadership skills, including a strong work ethic.
- Ability and willingness to do occasional evening and weekend work.
- Willingness to adhere to the University’s core values.
- Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.

- Ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation.
- Excellent computer skills utilizing software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, and career-technology tools.
- Have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community.
Position Preferred Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in higher education administration, counseling, or related field.
