In their 2025 Best Colleges & Universities Rankings, WalletHub, the popular personal finance company, has ranked Southwestern University as the 5th-best college in the state of Texas. WalletHub’s rankings highlight the top-performing schools at the lowest possible costs to undergraduates.
In Texas, Southwestern was ranked behind only Rice University, the University of Texas at Austin, Trinity University, and Texas A&M University. WalletHub also ranked Southwestern #33 in the south, and #165 in the nation.
Across the United States, WalletHub analyzed 822 higher-education institutions using 30 key metrics. Data collected was grouped into seven categories, including student selectivity, cost and financing, faculty resources, campus safety, campus experience, education outcomes, and career outcomes. Southwestern earned especially high marks in the student selectivity and faculty resources rankings, checking in at #129 and #159 nationally in those respective categories.
The student selectivity category included metrics such as admission rate, ACT/SAT scores, and share of first-year students finishing in the top 10% of their high school graduating class. The faculty resources category measured student-to-faculty ratio, average class size, and share of full-time faculty.
WalletHub’s Best Colleges rankings also analyzed post-attendance metrics – including student debt – to show the value of the education students can expect to receive beyond their undergraduate studies. Overall student indebtedness at Southwestern continues to decrease across each academic year. Last year, 2023-2024 graduates incurred an average of $30,548 in student debt, a figure well below the national average of $37,850.
