The Department of Economics and Business at Southwestern University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Economics/Finance beginning fall semester of 2025.
We seek a dynamic and innovative educator to join our liberal arts undergraduate program, with a primary focus on Finance and the ability to design and teach interdisciplinary courses that would appeal to both Business and Economics majors. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting Southwestern’s distinctive Financial Analyst Program, in which students manage a $2.5 million endowed fund. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise and teaching experience in areas such as Finance, Investments, Financial Statement Analysis, Financial Modeling, or other data-related courses relevant to Economics and Business majors.
The department values applications from those able to contribute to the university’s strong interdisciplinary programs in Environmental Studies, International Studies, Latin American and Border Studies, Race and Ethnicity Studies, and Feminist Studies, and a variety of interdisciplinary minors including Data Analytics. Additionally, candidates should be prepared to engage with high-impact student experiences such as First-Year Seminar, Capstone, study abroad, undergraduate research, and community-engaged learning. The typical teaching load is a 3/2 and Southwestern University offers research funding opportunities to support professional development. Faculty are expected to maintain an active research program leading to peer-reviewed publications, participating in university service and academic advising, and demonstrating a commitment to equity and inclusiveness in all aspects of their work.
A Ph.D. in Economics, Finance or a related field is required. Ph.D. completed by August 2025 is preferred, but ABDs will be considered. Significant industry experience will also be considered in candidate evaluation.
The Economics and Business Department and Southwestern University are committed to recruiting candidates who both excel in teaching and research/creative work and can best serve our diverse student population. As of the spring 2024 semester, 38% of students enrolled at Southwestern were members of groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education and we are committed to further increasing and supporting the diversity of our students, faculty, and curriculum. The Department seeks candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to, and will take an active role in, enhancing diversity, inclusion, and equity across the University, including fostering a sense of community and belonging for students. In your application materials, please include specific and detailed information about how you have worked to enhance diversity and inclusion through your teaching practices, research, and/or service experiences within the college or university setting.
