Carey, Jr. published an article titled “With All Due Respect: Respectability Politics and Black Support for Police Defunding and Abolition” in Political Behavior. This article examines how respectability politics shapes Black Americans’ views on policing and support for institutional reforms.

Dr. Alex Goodwin is an Assistant Professor of American Politics at Southwestern University. He specializes in the study of American politics with a particular focus on race and ethnic politics, Black politics, social movements, policing, and race and its relationship to sports. His current research examines how respectability politics impacts policy opinions and social movement support amongst African Americans. 

He received his PhD. from the University of North Texas in 2023 and his  BA from Prairie View A&M University in 2017.
