Southwestern University, located in Georgetown has an immediate opening for a Senior Accountant. This position performs project-based accounting for the University’s construction projects, general reconciliations and provides accounting support for Business Office operations. This is a full-time, fully benefited, exempt position who reports to the Controller.

 

Primary Duties:

  • Responsible for overseeing all construction accounts including working closely with Facilities Management and preparing project set-up, maintaining budgets, review of construction expenditures, and project close-out.
  • Prepares capital project journal entries during the year and at year end including, but not limited to, funding expenses, bond interest allocation, recording construction in progress, and capitalizing completed projects.
  • Prepares monthly gift revenue reconciliation and collaborates with the Advancement Office about related questions and changes needed.
  • Prepares normal monthly repeating journal entries as required.
  • Prepares monthly reconciliations for all bank accounts, Give-Campus, Transact Payments/CashNet,Stripe, and Campus Vending.
  • Maintains listing of gift card recipients, on a calendar year basis.
  • Collects and maintains W-9s for each gift card recipient.
  • Prepares schedule for charitable remainder trusts and perpetual trusts (Funds Held In Trust By Others) and then prepares year end adjusting journal entry.
  • Provides general support of internal controls and accounting.
  • Prepares schedules for accurately summarize the expenses related to Endowed Chairs.
  • Provides assistance with audit preparation and year-end accounting processes.
  • Assists in preparation and/or review of Forms 990, 990-T and other annual tax reports and numerous related schedules, as requested.
  • Provides general professional accounting support within the Business Office involving compilation, consolidation, and analysis of financial data (i.e. ledgers, preparing journal entries, compliance with internal controls, general ledger account reconciliations, etc.).
  • Assists with special projects accounting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three years professional-level experience in accounting or project accounting.
  • Posses strong accounting and data analysis skills and astute problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding in budgeting, project accounting and financial record keeping.
  • Posses advance Excel and Word processing software skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Posses strong leadership skills and work ethic.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks with a keen attention to details.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to have professional interactions with all internal and external University constituencies.
  • Demonstrate professional manner.
  • Ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating priorities, and produce a reliable work product.
  • Ability to perform well in stressful situations.

Position Preferred Requirements:

  • A minimum of five years of professional-level accounting experience, with demonstrated knowledge of project accounting.
  • Experience using Datatel.
  • Experience in higher education or non-profit organization.
