What does archival research look like in the field of history? Why is it necessary for constructing arguments about historical topics that have received little to no attention? This project aims to showcase the importance of finding new archival material through a continuation of 2 years worth of research into obstetrics and midwifery in Mexico City. I start by contextualizing this historical topic and provide reasons for why I am specifically interested in the archive Hemeroteca Nacional de México. This is followed by a week of archival research during which I search for documents worth photographing and organizing in a digital folder. This experience is showcased through the SU History Department’s Instagram page. I hope to share with others the value of research and why historians visit archives for their written works.
