Dr. Suh was a political science professor, department chair, and summer school administrator during his 26 years at Southwestern. During that time, he positively impacted hundreds of SU students, faculty, staff and members of the Georgetown community.
Born in Korea, Dr. Suh studied there as well as Japan and the U.S. He was a Fulbright Scholar at both Harvard and UC Berkeley before returning to South Korea, where he taught political science and served as department chair at Yonsei University in Seoul. Dr. Suh held multiple cabinet positions in South Korea, including Secretary of State, and made a lasting impact on political freedom in the country.
In 1966, Dr. Suh immigrated with his family to the U.S. and the following year joined the faculty at Southwestern, bringing his knowledge, expertise, and love of teaching to Georgetown. His legacy will be remembered through the many lives he touched.
Our thoughts are with his wife of 73 years, Heeshin Suh, his entire family including children, grandchildren, and loved ones. For service details or to share memories and condolences visit here.
