- To prevent unfair influencing, silence from current fraternity members begins at 10 p.m. on Friday (after the 2nd party) and ends at 7:30 a.m. when Bid Day activities commence on Saturday, January 20th. Recruits should not be in any fraternity house from 10 p.m. until they receive a bid Saturday morning.
- No one may be offered a bid before 7:30 a.m. January 20th or after March 8th, 2024. All initial bids will be provided to the IFC on January 20th. Bids must be picked up by potential new members in The Bishop’s Lounge on the morning of January 20th at 7:30 a.m. and then new members will run to the fraternity house of their choosing at approximately 8 a.m. If a participant is unable to pick up his bids, he should notify the IFC before that time. Participants must mark their returned bids one of three ways: Accepted, Reject, or Undecided.
- No alcohol may be served by a fraternity during bid day or anytime that weekend.
- A participant does not have to declare his choice Saturday morning. He has a week to declare his choice. In order to declare, he must notify both the Director of Greek Life and the Recruitment Chair of fraternity that he will be pledging. In the event a participant is extended multiple bids, all except the one that is accepted must be returned to the Director of Greek Life.
Note: If a participant accepts a bid to one fraternity but then drops, he may not be extended offers by any other fraternity. However, if the candidate has participated in the fraternity membership recruitment process, and it is within a reasonable amount of time since bids were extended, and unique circumstances exist, a participant may be granted an exception to this rule.
Note: These rules were revised and approved on 11/8/23 by the IFC and edited for clarity and brevity by the Director of Greek Life on 1/10/2024. Additional edits made on 1/12/24 at meeting all fraternity presidents invited to attend.
