The estimated cost for this six-week program in summer 2024 will be between $6588 and $7048. Cost is based on enrollment and may change.

The program cost includes:

• $550 non-refundable deposit
• 8 credits of tuition
• Pre-departure materials
• Room and two meals (breakfast and dinner) per weekday with host family
• Laundry service once a week
• Airport pick-up
• Overnight excursions to Iguazú Falls and an authentic estancia
• Dedicated staff support for the program, including an API resident director, with other staff as needed.
• Health insurance coverage for the duration of the program

The program cost does not include:

• International airfare
• Baggage fees and travel insurance
• Passport and visa expenses
• Additional meals (lunch during the week, some meals on weekends, during excursions)
• Departure transportation to the airport
• Personal expenses: toiletries, activities, snacks, personal travel, souvenirs, etc.

All students will take the following courses:

SPA 15-414: Conversation in Context - taught by a local instructor (4 credits)

This course focuses on conversation, especially useful interactions that students can use while living in Buenos Aires. The purpose of the course is to introduce students to cultural topics in Argentina, and then to use those topics to create class discussions. Students will learn about Argentina, become more conversant in Spanish, and practice their presentational skills. 

Students must have completed the language prerequisite of Spanish III, or the equivalent, in order to be eligible for this course. This course satisfies the Humanities requirement.

AND

SPA15-354: Cultures and Communities of Latin America with Dr. Carlos De Oro (4 credits)

The course offers an exploration of contemporary Argentine culture by delving into some of its rich literary works, cinematic masterpieces, and captivating art and myths. Leveraging the vibrant backdrop of Buenos Aires, students will delve into the symbols, influences, and historical events that have molded Argentina’s identity and culture, all within the heart of the capital city.

Students must have completed the language prerequisite of Spanish III, or the equivalent, in order to be eligible for this course. This course satisfies the Humanities requirement. It also counts as an advanced Spanish language course for majors and minors (Spanish and LABS).

Accommodation with host family for program duration: linens and towels, weekly cleaning, internet access and two meals per day included (breakfast included Mon-Sun / Dinner included Sun-Fri (no dinner on Saturday).

Group welcome meal, group farewell meal, one group lunch during Tigre day trip, and one lunch and one dinner during the excursion to San Antonio de Areco, one group lunch during the cooking class (note this is a light meal/snacks), and one group lunch during the Colonia day trip, as listed in itinerary.

The program begins with an on-site orientation in Buenos Aires. Students will attend sessions on cultural adaptation, host family living, transportation, and safety while also visiting some of Buenos Aires’ most important sites.  

Organized excursions will include tours of several Buenos Aires neighborhoods, a bike tour, Argentine tango classes, cooking class, and a visit to MALBA, the Latin American Art Museum of Buenos Aires. One of the highlights of the program will be a two-day excursion to the city of Iguazú to view the waterfalls along the border between Argentina and Brazil. Students will also take an overnight trip to an authentic estancia.
