PSY33-364: Sexuality and Culture: A Comparison of the Netherlands & the U.S. (4 credits)

This course is designed to increase awareness and knowledge of cross cultural differences in sexual attitudes and behaviors. Specifically, students will learn how sex education, sex work, and sexual health differ in the Netherlands compared to the United States. In addition to this in-depth comparative analysis of sexuality, students will study the history of marginalized groups in the Netherlands, including the LGBT community. Students will also be immersed in Dutch culture through guided tours, visits to museums, and participation in other cultural activities.

There are no prerequisites for this course. This course satisfies both the Social Science area requirement and the Social Justice requirement. It also counts as an upper-level Psychology elective for majors and minors.

  • For the duration of the program, students will be lodged in an aparthotel with easy access to the Program Center in Amsterdam.  There will be both a welcome and farewell group meal. The housing will likely be a two-bedroom suite housing four students (2 in each bedroom/bathroom) and a shared kitchette, similar to this option.

For the most part, students will be responsible for their own meals.
