Students will learn about Spain, become more conversant in Spanish, and practice their presentational skills.

    AND

Students will also choose one of the following two courses:

SPA 15-364: Cultures of Spain with Dr. Katy Ross (4 credits)

Cultures of Spain is a history and civilization course that offers students an overview of the historical and cultural events that shape Spain today. Students use the city of Granada as their classroom, supported by the course materials like current periodicals, TV programs, and movies. Some cultural excursions, such as visiting the Alhambra, attending a flamenco show, and learning about Spanish cuisine, meet outside of class time and are a substantial part of the learning experience. The class will be conducted in Spanish and assessment is also carried out in Spanish.

BUS 30-354: International Marketing with Prof. Andy Ross (4 credits)

International Marketing challenges students to understand the marketing implications of the different political, economic, social and cultural variables that exist in international markets. Students will learn the process of creating an in-depth cultural analysis and will use that analysis to evaluate the potential impacts to a company’s marketing strategy and marketing mix (product, pricing, promotions and distribution). While the process for evaluating an international market is broadly applicable, in this course students will focus on the European Union, Spain, and Spanish companies. The students will use the city of Granada as a major component of the classroom experience. The class will be conducted and assessed in English.

  • While in Granada, students will live with carefully selected host families who will provide students with three meals per day and laundry service one time per week. Two students will be assigned to each family. A welcome and a farewell meal are included in the program fee. Breakfast is included at all hotels. Students are responsible for all other meals.

  • The program begins with a thorough orientation in Granada. Students will stay in a hotel their first night, and attend sessions on cultural adaptation and safety while also visiting some of Granada’s most important sites. They will then finish orientation by learning about host family living before meeting and moving in with their host families. The final session the following morning will cover the cultural events and excursions that the students will attend as part of the Granada program.

Organized excursions will include a weekend trip to Cádiz (including a Panoramic tour with guide, and a visit to Torre Tavira and Museo Fenicio). Then, at the end of the program, the whole group will travel to Madrid and spend their last two days exploring the city together (including a guided walking tour of central Madrid, and a visit to Reina Sofia, Prado Museum, and a walking tour of central Madrid).
