About Emelia:
Most of my free time is spent in the movie theater, but I also like to read, collect strange bric-a-brac, and go outside sometimes!
Emelia’s Recommendations:
I look forward to seeing you on campus and hope you check out some of my favorite places while you’re here!
Wolf Ranch Shopping Area
- Machi Sushi - closest all-you-can-eat sushi to campus, fun and novel experience, $25 for lunch, good quality!
- Miniso - fun novelty store, lots of blind boxes, figurines, beauty products, plushes, snacks
Downtown Square
- Georgetown Public Library - Beautiful building, lots of quiet study spaces if you want a change of scenery from campus, secondhand bookstore, lots of different events like movie screenings, talks from local authors, and live music
- 309 Coffee - best coffee shop around, make all their own syrups including for their rotating seasonal specials [try the Dreamsicle Cold Brew if it is in season!], good atmosphere for studying both inside and on their outside deck
- Lark and Owl Bookstore - locally owned independent bookstore, cool author events, has hosted English department events before, including a screening of student films
Local Georgetown Recs
- The Caring Place - local thrift store nonprofit, revenue goes toward supporting families in crisis, lots of fun knick-knacks
- Plaka Greek Cafe - family-owned Greek restaurant, my favorite! Get the lemon chicken soup or the lima beans
- Lake Georgetown - hiking trails, little beaches, fun and relaxing, bring a picnic
Events to Check Out
- Red Poppy Festival (Georgetown’s big annual Spring festival on the square, parade, music, food, local vendors)
- Palace Theater Shows (local theater on the square, puts on about five musicals per year)
- Second Saturdays on the Square (market days on the Square on the second Saturday of each month, almost a mini-version of the Poppy Fest)
