Kate York Dr. M. Kate York is a proud 4th generation Texas public school educator currently beginning her 11th year as a Master Teacher for the UTeach Dallas teacher preparation program at The University of Texas at Dallas. In this role, she leverages extensive expertise to mentor future educators and foster innovative approaches to secondary STEM teaching, shaping the next generation of teachers and learners. Prior to her career in higher education, Kate served in multiple secondary education roles, including assistant principal, science instructional specialist, science teacher, and cheerleading and dance coach for McKinney, Wylie, and Moody ISDs.

Kate graduated from Southwestern with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 2002. She earned her M.Ed. in educational leadership and policy studies from The University of Texas at Arlington in 2011 and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction in science education from Texas Tech University in 2017.

While at Southwestern, she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and the SU cheerleaders. Kate is currently the president-elect of the Alumni Council for the Southwestern University Alumni Association. Prior to serving as a trustee, she served on Southwestern’s Board of Visitors and as a class chair.
