Matthew Lee is an active performer and teacher in the central Texas areas. He is a core 1st violin section member in the Austin Opera Orchestra and a frequent substitute for the Austin Symphony, and subs with other orchestras such as the San Antonio Philharmonic and Central Texas Philharmonic.

As a soloist and chamber player, Matthew has performed in many venues throughout the United States, and has performed in masterclasses for world-renowned artists such as Augustin Hadelich, Tasmin Little, Frank Almond, Laurie Smukler, Sibbi Bernhardsson, and more. He has won numerous awards in solo competitions, including top/1st place prizes in the Texas Music Festival Concerto Competition, the Brevard Music Center Concerto Competition, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison Concerto Competition, and has performed in concerts with the respective orchestras.

Matthew received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he studied with Eugene Purdue and Soh-Hyun Park Altino, then obtained his Master’s degree and Artist Diploma at the University of Texas–Austin, where he studied with Sandy Yamamoto.

He currently maintains a private teaching studio and teaches at multiple schools throughout the area.
