Notable Achievements

On October 15, Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Amy Rebecca King spoke at the book launch for Critical Acting Pedagogies: Intersectional Approaches. The book launch was held at RADA (The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) in London and online, broadcast in America and the UK. Her chapter, “Liberating Casting and Training Practices for Mixed-Asian Students,” was one of 10 academic writings highlighted at the event.

Amy Rebecca King is an actor, dancer, educator, writer, director and devisor from Los Angeles, California. She has worked with student of all ages in theatre for the last 7 years. She most recently acted in The Mystery of Irma Vep at CalRep, where she also finished her most recent play: Finger Lickin’ Good. She received her BFA in Theatre from NYU Tisch School of the Arts in 2016, and her MFA in Acting Pedagogy from California State University at Long Beach (CSULB) in May of 2022. Her areas of interest include acting, movement, directing, playwriting, devising, as well as theatre research and studies. As the new Visiting Assistant Professor of Acting at Southwestern University, her mission is to navigate how we as teachers can best teach to the students in front of us, and to uphold her anti-racist theatre ethos: to establish an inclusive environment in order to amplify the voices of global majority artists, actively combatting racism, white supremacy and the patriarchy in theatre. As a biracial Asian actor, she has witnessed the direct effects of whiteness and the patriarchy in casting throughout her entire career.
