Today, The Princeton Review published its 2019 college rankings, and Southwestern earned a coveted spot among The Best 384 Colleges. In the 27th edition of the well-respected college guide, the University is recognized as #3 in the nation among Impact Schools and ranks #7 in the nation and #1 in Texas for Career Services. SU also made the list of Colleges that Pay You Back and Green Colleges.
Maintaining its spot among the top Impact Schools, SU is acknowledged for providing ample opportunities to contribute through community service, supporting successful campus sustainability efforts, encouraging an active student government, and inspiring on-campus student engagement. Based on data gathered from sources inside and outside the University, Southwestern is designated as one of the 200 Colleges That Pay You Back thanks to our strong academic rigor, the career outcomes of our graduates, and our affordability—our comparatively lower sticker price and generous financial aid packages. And because of our exemplary sustainability practices and strong foundation in sustainability education, SU maintains its position as one of 200 Green Colleges.
In the latest profile, Taylor Lewis ’18 reflects on his years at SU as “an exhilarating, rewarding, and life-changing process of personal development and growth through experiential intercultural and interdisciplinary learning. Personally, my Southwestern Experience has been one great big opportunity to discover my true passions, hone in on my strengths, and learn from my weaknesses—all while being a part of a community that not only supports me but encourages me to be the best person I can be.” Another anonymous student adds that SU is an attractive university for “thinkers and learners, for people who like to be challenged and have fun at the same time.”
The Princeton Review considers approximately 2,000 schools in each year’s rankings, and only 13% of the more than 3,000 four-year colleges and universities in the U.S. are profiled in the book, which is one of the company’s most popular guides. Published annually since 1992, the book—along with its online version—features fairly detailed portraits of each college, including admission and graduation rates as well as excerpts from surveys of current SU students. The current rankings derive from feedback from 138,00 students as well as data collected from each institution and organizations unaffiliated with the universities profiled. Schools are then sorted within nine specific categories, such as extracurriculars and campus life.
The Princeton Review is an educational company that offers online academic tutoring, counseling for college and graduate-school admissions, online and in-person test preparation, and other student resources.
