From the moment you become a new member you are surrounded by sisters who genuinely care for you. You will not be alone at college. When you need a helping hand, it will be there. When good things come to you, others will be there to share your happiness. These friends will be your dearest and truest long after your college days are over.

Leadership

Sorority members are given opportunities to show and improve their leadership skills. Sorority life teaches both cooperation and acceptance of responsibility as part of leadership experience. From your earliest days as a new member to being an officer planning events, you will gain invaluable experiences working within a group and leading it.

Service

Numerous philanthropic events are put on by each organization during the year as a chance to help others.

Each Panhellenic Conference sorority has its own philanthropy. Alpha Xi Delta sponsors events to benefit Choose Children. Alpha Delta Pi sponsors events for the Ronald McDonald House. Delta Delta Delta sponsors events for Children’s Cancer Charities. and Zeta Tau Alpha sponsors events for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

As a member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated® has implemented programs of service that impact countless lives. There are 5 service initiatives that focus on Educational Enrichment (One Million Backpacks initiatives), Health (e.g., Alzheimer’s Disease and Caregiver Support), Family Strengthening (Childhood Hunger initiatives), Environmental Ownership (Playground projects & Acts of Green), and Global Impact (Global Classrooms Project) as well as expanding its community presence through its International Community Impact Days and signature enrichment program, the ASCEND Youth Enrichment Program℠.

Scholarship

Scholarship is what college is all about. The Greek System at Southwestern promotes the pursuit of academic excellence. The sorority women’s cumulative GPA is higher than the all-women’s average.

National Influence

Being a member of Sorority Life has had a positive influence on college students across the nation. Consider the following:

• Fraternities and sororities raise more than $7 million for charity every year.
• 63 percent of all U.S. Cabinet members since 1900 have been a part of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
• Out of North America’s 50 largest corporations, 47 are led by Fraternity and Sorority Life members.
• Greeks make up three percent of the U.S. population.
