Dr. MyKella Mitchell (she/they)

Director of Student Inclusion and belonging

Hometown: Philadelphia, PA

Education: Nova Southeastern University - B.S., M.S.; West Chester University - Ed.D.

About Me: I’m MyKella Mitchell, a proud first‑generation college graduate who built my academic journey through determination, community, and a deep love for helping students succeed. I studied Business for two of my three degrees and now hold a doctorate in Policy Planning and Administration with a focus on higher education that fuels my commitment to creating systems where students can thrive.

During college, I worked across campus in roles that kept me connected to students and the heart of university life: the Admissions Office, the bookstore, and multiple student‑support spaces. I was a student leader, an activist, and the go‑to person for all things Philly.

Today, I serve as the Director of Student Inclusion & Belonging, where among the many things I do, I lead Captain’s Academy. My work centers belonging, confidence‑building, and helping first‑gen students navigate college with the support, tools, and encouragement they deserve.

When I’m not working, I’m usually reading or spending time with my chosen family and my dog Harlow.
