Financial Aid
Grants & Loans
We understand that some families may not be able to meet the costs of a Southwestern education without additional resources. Financial aid can help provide other options to bridge the gap between scholarship resources and what a family can afford to pay.
Need-based financing options include:
- Federal options such as the Pell Grant and the Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
- Options for Texas residents such as the Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG)
- Southwestern need-based grants
- Work Study, Direct Sub/Unsub Loans, and PLUS Loans for Parents
- Private Loans
Your First Step
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is the form that the federal government, states, colleges and other organizations use to award financial aid. It is your key to accessing grants, scholarships, work-study programs, and student loans. Students and parents must create an FSA ID, which is required to access all Federal Student Aid websites.
We recommend that you submit the FAFSA each year you’re in college — it only takes 30 minutes on average to complete, so start here.
