  • Charles and Mary Forbes Presidential Scholarship

    The Charles and Mary Forbes Presidential Scholarship was established to provide a scholarship to a Southwestern University junior or senior that have demonstrated leadership skills within a student organization and have financial need. 

    Amount: $1,000

    Earl Lee Moseley, Jr. Scholarship

    This scholarship is for Juniors and Seniors who are involved in civic engagement and student leadership.  Candidates must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and completed at least 80% of all credit hours attempted in their Southwestern coursework. Awarded on the basis on financial need. Preference is given to students from under-represented groups.

    J. Charles Merrill Peace and Justice Scholarship

    For this scholarship, preference will be given to students who have completed at least two years of full-time enrollment, are pre-ministerial students, and/or who have demonstrated interest in activities or occupations which promote peace and justice locally, nationally or globally. Furthermore, preference may be given to students who are members of the United Methodist Church.

    Amount: $3,000 for one year

    Alpha Phi Omega Scholarship

    This scholarship is for students who are members of the Alpha Gamma Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega: National Service Fraternity.  The purpose of this scholarship is to develop leadership, promote friendship and provide service to humanity by supporting active members of Alpha Phi Omega.  Candidates must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and completed at least 80% of all credit hours attempted in their Southwestern coursework. Awarded on the basis on financial need.

    Wade Tyler “Ty” Wilson Endowed Scholarship

    The Wade Tyler “Ty” Wilson Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2020 to provide scholarships to Southwestern University sophomores, juniors, and seniors with demonstrated campus engagement, volunteerism and/or student leadership and who graduated from a Texas High School Awarded on the basis of financial need.

    Nancy Spivey Scholarship 

    This Scholarship was established and endowed by Nancy and Rex Spivey, to provide scholarships to Southwestern University sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a diagnosed learning disability and who demonstrate financial need.

    Olivia Ann Brooks Endowed Scholarship

    This endowment fund was established by Kermit Jr. and Delesicca McCradic, to provide scholarships to students that demonstrate financial need as determined by the financial aid office and meet one or more of the following criteria:1.Student has a physical disability 2.Student comes from an underrepresented background 3.First generation college student

    Bishop Kaung Scholarship

    The Bishop Kaung Scholarship is available for international students who are attending Southwestern University. The scholarship is made possible through the Bishop Kaung Endowed Scholarship Fund.

  •   Pre-Law Scholarships

    Candidates for these scholarships must be pursuing a course of study in preparation for Pre-Law, with the intent of enrolling in law school after graduation from Southwestern University.  Contact Tish Owen (Financial Aid, 512-863-1259, owent@southwestern.edu) for more information.  

     Judge Richard Critz & Robert H. Purl Pre-Law Scholarship

    Candidates must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and completed at least 80% of all credit hours attempted in their Southwestern coursework. Awarded on the basis of merit (Critz) and financial need (Purl).

    Pre-Med Scholarships

    Candidates for these scholarships must be pursuing a course of study in preparation for medical school, with the intent of enrolling in medical school after graduation from Southwestern University. Students planning to enroll in dental school are ineligible for these scholarships. Applications for Pre-Med scholarships should be submitted to Dr. Maria Cuevas.

    M.D. Anderson Pre-Med Scholarship

    Candidates must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA in their Southwestern coursework. Awarded on the basis of merit and not financial need.

    Amount: Variable, up to $4,000

     Turner M. Caldwell, III Scholarship

    Candidates must have at least a 3.7 cumulative GPA in their Southwestern coursework and must be entering their senior year. Awarded on the basis of merit and not financial need.

     Dr. John W. Foster Pre-Med Excellence

    This scholarship is competitive and is awarded on the basis of merit and financial need. Recipients who also receive need-based financial aid will have this scholarship incorporated into their need-based financial aid package. Students must be making satisfactory academic progress for financial aid purposes (i.e., 2.0 cumulative GPA, completed at least 80% of all credit hours attempted, and earned no more than 175 credit hours.)

    Study Abroad Scholarships

    Lokey Scholarship & Kahler Scholarship

    Southwestern maintains two scholarship funds: the Lokey Scholarship for Study Abroad and the Kahler Scholarship. The Lokey Scholarship is reserved for summer study abroad programs. Awards range from $200 - $500 and are made on the basis of academic merit and financial need. The Kahler Scholarship provides awards for semester and year-long study abroad. These awards are made primarily on the basis of financial need. Kahler awards typically range from $1,000 - $3,500. Contact the Office of Intercultural Learning for application information.

     

    Alumni Relations Scholarships

    Greater Austin Association Scholarship

    A scholarship for students who have financial need, minimum 3.0 GPA, and whose permanent home address is in one of the following counties (Bastrop, Blanco, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, and Travis).

    Hatton W. Sumners Scholarship of Communities Foundation of Texas

    Scholarship is available for legal residents of TX, NM, or OK who have completed 60 hours of college coursework, minimum GPA of 3.25, have four semesters remaining in college and intend to pursue a baccalaureate degree at any accredited college or university in TX, NM, or OK.  Applicants will be reviewed based on two letters of recommendation, aspirations and ideals expressed in essay, school, and extracurricular activities, and demonstrated leadership potential.

    Amount:   $10,000  (2-year scholarships awarded per year per student)

    Academic Major Scholarships

    Suzanne Morrow Ellis and Edward Ellis JR. Scholarship

    This Scholarship was established and endowed by Suzanne Morrow Ellis and Edward Ellis Jr, to provide scholarships to students majoring in business, economics or education. Students applying for the scholarship must also demonstrate financial need as determined by the financial aid office.

  • Alpha Omicron Centennial Scholarship (Pi Kappa Alpha)

    Candidates must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and completed at least 80% of all credit hours attempted, and earned no more than 175 credit hours in their Southwestern coursework. Awarded on the basis of financial need.

    Alpha Xi Delta Stephanie Quimby Memorial Scholarship

    Candidates must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and completed at least 80% of all credit hours attempted in their Southwestern coursework. Awarded on the basis of leadership.

    Ouida Henderson/Allison Dickson Scholarship (Delta Delta Delta)

    Candidates must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and completed at least 80% of all credit hours attempted in their Southwestern coursework. Awarded on the basis on financial need.

    Gabe W. Lawson & Phi Delta Theta Scholarship

    Candidates must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and completed at least 80% of all credit hours attempted in their Southwestern coursework. Awarded on the basis on financial need.

    Nell Barnes Benold ’48 & Dorothy Stevens Bruner ’61 ZTA Scholarship

    Candidates must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and completed at least 80% of all credit hours attempted in their Southwestern coursework. Awarded on the basis on financial need.

    The Zeta Chapter-Alpha Delta Pi Scholarship

    Candidates must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and completed at least 80% of all credit hours attempted in their Southwestern coursework. Awarded on the basis on financial need.

    Thomas White Memorial - Kappa Alpha Order Scholarship

    Candidates must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and completed at least 80% of all credit hours attempted in their Southwestern coursework. Awarded on the basis on financial need.

  • Methodist Scholarships

    A number of both need and merit based scholarships are available through a variety of Methodist organizations. Each award has its own eligibility requirements and deadlines, so be sure to contact the Financial Aid Office with any questions. 

    General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) Scholarships 

    An online scholarship application must be submitted directly to GBHEM in order to be considered for the J. A. Knowles Memorial Scholarship and the United Methodist Scholarship, which were formerly awarded through the Southwestern University United Methodist Scholarship Application.

    J. A. Knowles Memorial Scholarship

    Candidates must be a full-time degree seeking student at Southwestern, and must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. Applicants must file a FAFSA and demonstrate financial need. Requires a minimum GPA of 2.5 to be considered.

    Amount: $500 to $5,000 for one year
    Application deadline: March 1

     

    United Methodist Scholarship

    Candidates must be a full-time degree seeking student at Southwestern, and must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. Requires a minimum GPA of 2.5 to be considered. Applicants must be an active, full member of the United Methodist Church for at least one year prior to application.  

    Amount: $500 to $5,000 for one year
    Application deadline: March 1

     

    United Methodist Higher Education Foundation

     

    United Methodist Dollars for Scholars 

    Candidates must be a full-time degree seeking student at Southwestern. Requires a minimum GPA of 2.5 to be considered. Applicants must be an active, full member of the United Methodist Church for at least one year prior to application.  

    Amount:  $3000 to $4000 for one year

    Pre-Ministerial Scholarship

    Pre-Ministerial Scholarships are available for students who plan to enter full-time ministry and participation in the Southwestern Pre-Ministry Connection organized by the University Chaplain.  Candidates should speak with the University Chaplain prior to submitting a Pre-Ministerial Scholarship application.

    Amount:  Up to $10,000 per year
