Peer Writing Consultants in the Score Learning Commons’ Debby Ellis Writing Center come from various majors and work one-on-one with writers from across the disciplines. Working as a writing consultant involves active listening, sharing writing strategies, the ability to adapt to novel situations, and an open mind to various topics and arguments. While all writing consultants are generalists, meaning they can work with any type of writing, we do have a few experienced consultants that, in addition, specialize in STEM-Writing or Art History consulting. Additionally, consultants may work in our Accommodations Annex with our assistive tech for students who request individualized assistance. Consultants may also participate in planning and implementing writing-based workshops, mentoring new consultants, and participating in outreach events during the Fall and Spring semesters. Consultants usually work 1-3 two-hour shifts per week in one-on-one consultations (face-to-face or virtual).
