Bio: Originally from the Rio Grande Valley, Amalia Merino is a first-generation graduate who received a B.A. in Linguistics and Spanish in 2017 before completing a M.A. in Hispanic Linguistics in 2020 from the University of Texas at Austin. Currently, she is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Texas at Austin who successfully defended her dissertation in Spring 2025. Self-identified as a proud Latina, Amalia was excited to join Southwestern University in June 2023 where she assists students of Hispanic and Latin American heritage achieve academic, professional, and personal success.
