Charles R. Millikan ’68 has devoted more than six decades to ministry, pastoral leadership, and the integration of faith and healing. After majoring in philosophy and minoring in psychology at Southwestern, he earned his master’s in theology from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University and a doctorate in ministry from Drew University before serving congregations across Texas and later as a district superintendent in the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. During his 20 years as vice president for spiritual care and values integration at Houston Methodist Hospital System, he expanded the chaplaincy program and helped build one of the nation’s largest and most respected clinical pastoral education programs. In addition to serving as an executive sponsor of the Houston Methodist Bioethics Council, he taught as a clinical professor at Baylor College of Medicine and an adjunct professor at SMU’s Perkins School of Theology. A fourth-generation member of the United Methodist clergy, Millikan has been a dedicated volunteer, trustee, and connector for SU students pursuing careers in health care and ministry.
