Since graduating from Southwestern University in 1993 with honors in computer science and in psychology, W. Joseph “Joey” King has built a distinguished career at the intersection of higher education, technology, entrepreneurship, and research science. Having earned a PhD in human–computer interaction from the University of Washington, he currently serves as president of Presbyterian Pan American School and previously held leadership roles as president of Lyon College, senior advisor to the president at Emory & Henry College, executive director of the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education, and vice president for innovation at Southwestern. King is coauthor of Leadership Matters: Confronting the Hard Choices Facing Higher Education and How to Run a College: A Practical Guide for Trustees, Faculty, Administrators, and Policymakers, both from Johns Hopkins Press. A longtime supporter of Southwestern, he endowed the King Creativity Fund, which has provided grants to students for innovative interdisciplinary projects for 26 years. He received the Distinguished Southwestern Service Award in 2024.
