2025 Mundy Award Recipients
On Tuesday, February 18, five members of the Southwestern University faculty and staff were bestowed with Mundy Awards for Exemplary Service by President Laura Skandera Trombley. Named to honor the leadership of Southwestern alumnus and former trustee Joe S. Mundy, these awards carry the spirit of excellence and commitment that Mundy exemplified throughout his life. Each year since 2002, the Mundy Awards serve as a testament to the outstanding service and leadership demonstrated by Southwestern faculty and staff.
Each recipient has left an indelible mark on Southwestern through their dedication and passion. The honorees’ names will be inscribed alongside previous winners on the plaque exhibited in Bishops’ Lounge. The honorees will be invited to occupy the stage at the 2025 Convocation Ceremony, where they will be honored again.
The following are this year’s recipients:
Senior Associate Director of the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) Alexandra Anderson has been going above and beyond to support the professional development journeys of Southwestern University students for nearly 25 years. Under her guidance, the CCPD has consistently been recognized as one of the top undergraduate career centers in the nation, most recently earning the ranking of #1 in Texas and #2 in the United States in The Princeton Review’s 2025 Best Career Services list. With her tremendous organizational skills, she helps provide career exploration tools, alumni connections, career and internship fairs, and guest lectures, all with the goal of empowering students to successfully navigate their professional development. Anderson also serves as the fellowships and scholarships advisor for Southwestern, helping promote and mentor students through application processes that are often complex and time-consuming. Her unselfish commitment to student success makes her an invaluable member of the Southwestern community.
Senior Creative Director Matt Madsen has transformed Southwestern’s visual identity with his expertise, technical skills, and vision. He works tirelessly to strengthen the University’s brand across print, digital, and physical spaces. Through his efforts to revamp admission materials, many people see Madsen’s work before ever setting foot on campus. Once on campus, his contributions are evident. From the stunning aesthetics of spaces like Distinctive Collections, the Professor John Score II Learning Commons, and the Southwestern Campus Store, his work plays a key role in student recruitment and retention. Perhaps no area has felt Madsen’s impact quite like the Athletic Department. He undertook the monumental task of designing the new Pirate Athletics brand from the ground up. From logos and uniforms to locker rooms and stadium signage, Madsen has created a first-class look and feel for Pirate Athletics. All while maintaining exceptional collegiality, Madsen has transformed Southwestern University for the better through his efforts.
Garey Chair and Professor of Mathematics Alison Marr has been supporting Southwestern University’s mission since 2007. A passionate teacher-scholar, Marr has displayed a commitment to fostering trust, collaboration, and community inside and outside the classroom. Her interdisciplinary approach to creating innovative and engaging courses and seminars has allowed mathematics and non-mathematics students alike to participate in learning and intellectual growth. As the Director of Paideia, Marr has spread these ideals to every corner of the Southwestern campus. Throughout her time at SU, she has served as a mentor and resource for her fellow faculty members, especially those beginning their careers at Southwestern. Her impact extends far beyond Georgetown as Marr also serves as the co-director of the Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education (EDGE) Summer Program, which helps empower women to find success in graduate school. Marr embodies the positive impact that one person can have in the lives of others.
Supervisor of Logistical Services Mike Sedwick has been a constant source of support and reliability for Southwestern students, faculty, and staff. He has emerged as a cornerstone of the campus community, working tirelessly, often behind-the-scenes, to keep Southwestern running smoothly. From preparing for the needs of each day, sometimes before the sun comes up, through late nights ensuring on-campus events run smoothly, Sedwick truly embodies a spirit of dedication and service. He has earned a reputation across the SU community for his unparalleled work ethic, positive demeanor, great communication skills, and can-do attitude. Often the first to respond in an emergency, Sedwick is always available when needed, and always provides a smile, even in the face of last-minute requests and other obstacles. Sedwick is synonymous with the attitude, work ethic, and attention to detail that Southwestern strives to instill in its students.
Human Resources Generalist II Bruce Wallace is not only an integral part of the Human Resources Department, but also of the entire culture at Southwestern University. Wallace has displayed unwavering dedication, an exceptional work ethic, and a remarkable commitment to the University, especially in times of need. Even when tasked with tackling complex issues, he remains calm and approachable. His spirit of service and willingness to go above and beyond has positively impacted students, faculty, and staff alike. Wallace is truly committed to the well-being of others and his passion for SU shines through his every interaction. He fosters connections that strengthen the entire Southwestern community by making everyone feel valued and supported. He has become a trusted resource for students, faculty, and staff, and his welcoming, encouraging, and attentive personality has made him a pillar of support on campus.
