A native of Garland, Amanda Mohammed-Strait chose Southwestern for its intimate liberal arts education, which fostered both her scientific foundation and her understanding of diverse populations through Spanish immersion. Majoring in biology and minoring in Spanish, she graduated in 2008.
Amanda credits Southwestern with providing a rigorous yet supportive environment that encouraged personal and professional growth. “Southwestern stretched me in ways I never imagined, giving me a strong foundation for lifelong learning and the drive to make a difference in my community and the world.”
After graduating from Ross University School of Medicine in 2015, she completed a family medicine residency in 2018.
Today, her passion for healthcare equity is evident through her work with diverse communities in Dallas and globally. Her fluency in Spanish, developed through her minor in Spanish and multiple study-abroad experiences, plays a vital role in her current medical practice, where she primarily serves Spanish-speaking patients. As the Community Health and Engagement Lead Physician at Oak Street Health, Amanda is committed to addressing health disparities and improving access to care for underserved populations.
She encourages pre-med students to embrace Southwestern’s small classes and dedicated faculty as a launchpad for their own medical careers.
