Word is getting out about the special bond between Southwestern University and the City of Georgetown. Southern Living magazine recently ranked Georgetown 15th on their list of “The South’s Best Cities On The Rise,” and Southwestern was a big reason why.
The publication highlighted how Georgetown has checked in as the fastest-growing city in the country for two years in a row thanks to amenities such as Southwestern University, the Georgetown square, and natural wonders like the San Gabriel River, Blue Hole Park, and Inner Space Cavern.
Southern Living’s full list includes 25 cities, large and small, each boasting “excellent food scenes, cool yet quaint downtown districts, incredible natural beauty, [and] thriving arts communities.” After Southern Living editors compiled a list of cities based on research, reporting, and personal experiences, over 20,000 respondents voted on their favorites in a survey commissioned during the summer of 2023.
Georgetown’s inclusion on the list highlights one of Southwestern’s programmatic focuses in the Tactical Plan. The University has worked to further enhance the relationship between Southwestern and the greater Georgetown community through monthly emails to residents about events and activities, and a web page providing residents with more information on how to become engaged with SU.
