Twelve Faculty Receive University Awards

On May 8, 2021, during the class of 2020 and class of 2021 commencement convocations, President Laura E. Skandera Trombley recognized 12 faculty members for their accomplishments in teaching, research, and advising.
Finch Award
Professor of Spanish and Wilhelmina Cullen Robertson Endowed Professor Katy Ross is the 2021 recipient of the William Carrington Finch Award. This award is made to a full-time faculty member for excellence in teaching, research, contributions to the governance of the university, and contributions outside the classroom.
Southwestern Teaching Award
Professor of Chemistry Emily Niemeyer and Part-Time Assistant Professor of Theatre C. B. Goodman are the 2019–2020 recipients and Associate Professor of Education Alicia Moore, Assistant Professor of Business Gabriela Flores, and Director of General Chemistry Labs Willis Weigand are the 2020–2021 recipients of the Southwestern Teaching Award. These awards are based on nominations from students.
Jesse E. Purdy Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Works Awards
Associate Professor of Communication Studies Valerie Renegar and Assistant Professor of Political Science Emily Sydnor are the 2019–2020 recipients and Associate Professor of Communication Studies Bob Bednar and Assistant Professor of History Joseph Hower are the 2020–2021 recipients of the Jesse E. Purdy Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Works Award. These honors are based on nominations by members of the faculty.
Southwestern Advising Award
Director of First-Year Biology Laboratories Stacie Brown is the 2019–2020 recipient and Professor of Spanish Laura Senio Blair is the 2020–2021 recipient of the Advising Award. Presented by the Office of Academic Success, this recognition honors the work of exceptional faculty advisors. Nominations are generated by students, and the recipient is selected by the Academic Success staff.
