Sumners Scholar Breely Peterson’s first job out of college? Working as a deputy press secretary for a congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives. Given the political science major’s meteoric career so far, it’s not difficult to imagine her eventually achieving her dream job of becoming an ambassador to the U.N. advocating for human rights. “Southwestern and the Brown and Sumners scholarships have allowed me to apply my education in a meaningful way and reach all these opportunities way more quickly than I ever would have thought,” the December 2020 grad shares.
