Fellowships
Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) & CLS Spark
The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program supports summer study abroad in one of a dozen languages critical to America’s national security and economic prosperity.
CLS Spark, an initiative of the CLS Program, provides opportunities for American undergraduate college and university students to study Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian virtually. See website for proficiency level details for each language. Preference will be given to candidates for CLS Spark from schools where the target language is not taught.
Students of diverse disciplines and majors are encouraged to apply. Participants are expected to continue their language study beyond the scholarship period, and later apply their critical language skills in their future professional careers. CLS participants are citizen ambassadors, sharing American values and promoting American influence abroad.
