“Disrupted Geometries” is an art exhibition of paintings, drawings and collages that have at their core geometric foundations held in tension against the irregular, non-geometric marks that comprise them. Works by Shawn Camp, Elvia Perrin, Ruth Shouval, and Randy Twaddle are on display.
Shawn Camp grew up in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and completed an MFA in Painting and Printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1997. He began exploring, art-making, and exhibiting works throughout the United States and abroad as an artist and musician. He settled in Austin, Texas where he works in his studio and teaches at Texas State University and Austin Community College. His paintings and multimedia works have been shown throughout Texas and in New York, Tokyo, and Los Angeles, along with many other locales, and are included in numerous public and private collections. They compulsively explore meaning in disorder through a textured expanse of color, light, and sound. “I make paintings that explore the boundary between the physical and the transcendent. Each is an aesthetic reaction to our tendency to comprehend reality through an elaborate construction of systems and precepts that divide our experience into diametric poles of existence.”
Elvia Perrin received her MFA from the University of North Texas at Denton in 2002. She was a collaborator, printer and artist at Flatbed Press + Gallery in Austin, Texas, for seven years, and has taught. She has taught printmaking and foundation courses locally for over a decade. She currently is a Lecturer of Art at Texas State University and working in her own printmaking studio. Elvia is the Founding Executive Director: PrintAustin, a city-wide contemporary print event. She has collaborated with Retailers Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel and TRNK, NY and has shown nationally and internationally. Elvia is currently represented by Wally Workman Gallery and lives in Austin, Texas.
Ruth Shouval lives and works in Houston, Texas. She studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts in Jerusalem and received her MAE from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 1996. She became a member of the CE RISD faculty in 1996, remaining there until 2015. She also attended the Glassell School of Art in Houston from 2004 to 2007. In 2012, she was selected to participate in PrintHouston Next, a national biennial of contemporary print juried by Dena Woodall, curator of prints and drawings at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH).
