Southwestern University, the first institution of higher learning in Texas and a leader in innovative undergraduate education, announced today a strategic addition to its senior leadership team. Scarlett J. Moss joins Southwestern University as chief marketing and communications officer and vice president for integrated communications.
An alumna of Southwestern, Moss will assume her duties on January 6, 2020. She will report directly to the president of the University and serve as a member of the president’s staff leadership team. In this role, Moss will advance the institution’s vision and mission by implementing comprehensive marketing and communications plans. Overseeing the University’s communications staff, Moss will seek to enhance Southwestern’s overall national and international reputation.
“I am thrilled Scarlett has made the decision to come home to her alma mater,” says Edward Burger, president of Southwestern University. “She not only brings a deep passion and intimate knowledge of Southwestern, but she also possesses a wealth of marketing and communications leadership. I believe Scarlett’s experience in working with global brands, political campaigns, and public-relations agencies not only will bring a fresh perspective to how we and others see ourselves but also will continue to elevate our institution.”
Moss joins Southwestern from Swire Coca-Cola, USA, where she headed public relations and government affairs and played an integral role in building the company’s corporate communications team and capabilities. Prior to that, she was vice president of state and local government affairs for Coca-Cola North America. She has also worked for global public-relations agencies Edelman and APCO Worldwide. Moss began her career by managing national, regional, and local political campaigns across the country.
“Returning to Southwestern has been a long-held dream,” states Moss. “This University had such a positive and transformational effect on me. To now have the opportunity to step into this leadership role is both exciting and gratifying. I look forward to rejoining this great institution and once again making Georgetown my home.”
Moss holds a degree in political science from Southwestern University. She was a part of Southwestern’s first study-abroad program and was a member of Student Foundation. She will relocate from Salt Lake City to Georgetown at the end of the year.
