The Sarofim School of Fine Arts presents an exhibition of photographs by alumnus Tom Morin in the Sarofim Fine Arts Gallery on the Southwestern University campus. Tom Morin: 25 is a chronological review of the artist’s work from a mid-career perspective, focusing on three of his photographic series created in the twenty-five years between 1992 and 2017: Metaphor, Remnants, and Service.  In the exhibition catalog, Dr. Therese Mulligan describes the Metaphor series as “the importance…of pictorial representation in which the thing seen is symbolic or evocative of something else, including psychological states of mind or feeling;” Remnants as “abstract images captured from nature ‘which evoke the synthesis of intellect and emotion with a profound interiority through a minimalizing style;’ ” and Service, “a documentary approach to photographing the subject of military life.”

Mr. Morin began exhibiting professionally in 1999 and has since participated in multiple exhibitions around the United States. His work is included in public and private collections, including the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas, Austin, and the Fidelity Investments Corporate Art Collection in Boston, Massachusetts. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994 from Southwestern University, Mr. Morin received an M.F.A in Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, in 2004. 

This exhibition will be on view from October 3 - November 12, 2019 and is free and open to the public.  A reception for the artist will take place on October 19, 2019 from 5 – 7 p.m. in the Sarofim Fine Arts Gallery, East Rutersville Drive, Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas. Tom Morin will give a short gallery talk about his work at 5:30 p.m. during the reception.
