Prescription Presence references the omnipresence of the pharmaceutical industry in America. It’s no secret that this industry is a massive and expanding entity in our country; however, our unique relationship with the saturated existence of prescription medication is rarely questioned or problematized. In my work I use thousands of painted over-the-counter pills and gelatin capsules to create various two- and three-dimensional forms influenced by multiple aspects of the American prescription drug culture, such as: attractive direct-to-consumer print and television advertising; colorful packaging; and pervasive marketing.

The works exhibit carefully designed compositions often featuring undulating, sprawling
forms that imply growth and expansion reflecting the nature of industrialized medicine.
My work reflects the span, the benefits, and the deleterious effects of Big Pharma in
America in order to illuminate a surprisingly essential aspect of our national identity.
