Enjoy a curated Chamber Music concert featuring Austin Symphony Concertmaster and Assistant Professor at Southwestern University Jessica Mathaes, plus some of her distinguished musical colleagues from across the country:

Lukas Goodman, Assistant Principal Cello, Minnesota Orchestra
Phillip Stevens, Colorado Symphony
Nicholas Hammel, Trio Sponte
Jonathan Rouse, Principal Bass, Austin Symphony

Brahms and Dvorak were not only two of the greatest chamber music composers of all time, but also close friends who enjoyed a fruitful mentor-mentee relationship. We will explore two of Mathaes’ favorite works by these composer friends on this program. On the first half, experience Brahms’ stirring and emotional String Quartet No. 1 in c minor, featuring violinists Jessica Mathaes and Nicholas Hammel, violist Phillip Stevens, and cellist Lukas Goodman. Following intermission, they will be joined by Austin Symphony principal bassist and SU bass instructor Jonathan Rouse in Dvorak’s String Quintet, the ultimate chamber music party piece bursting with soaring melodies and Czech flair.
