Service Academies Service Academy files are comprised of successful service academy applications arranged alphabetically by name of applicant along with several general files. The latter concern policies, procedures and the history of academy appointments for each service academy and consist of admission information, selection criteria, articles on illegal recruiting, cheating and hazing incidents as well as information regarding the conduct and honor systems of the service academies. Many of the materials here concern the admission of women to the service academies, primarily in the form of newspaper articles written during the middle to late 1970s. Also included are some correspondence and a 1973 excerpt from the Congressional Record recording the first attempt to pass an amendment allowing women to enter a service academy.
