NAME
Dara Adebayo
TITLE
Economics Tutor
About me
Hi! My name is Dara Adebayo, I’m an international student from Nigeria and I’m currently in my senior year here at Southwestern. I’m an Economics & Political Science double major with a double minor in Business & International studies. Asides from tutoring, I’m also an academic ambassador, an econometrics TA, a member of the Honor code council, coordinator of the Loveworld Southwestern fellowship and vice president of the global students organization.
I chose to become a tutor because during my time here at Southwestern, most especially in my major courses, I realized that the material we cover is so intricate and extensive. While I was able to find what worked for me to assimilate information, I realized that a lot of students would love to have some kind of additional resource to help them do the same (most especially from a student perspective). Becoming a tutor is my way of lending a helping hand to the business & economics department and being the support for students who need it. It’s an opportunity for us to learn and grow together!
NAME
Allie Anderson
TITLE
Spanish 1-3 Tutor
About me
Hi! My name is Allie, and I’m a junior Biology major with a double minor in Spanish and health studies. I’ve always loved reading and writing since I was a kid. I love the ability to learn about different perspectives and worlds in different voices other than my own. I also enjoy the ability to convey my own stories and ideas through different writing outlets whether it’s a more formal academic paper or a creative story written in my free time.
Being primarily in STEM, I’ve felt anxious about trying to convey facts discovered through research in ways that are both professional as well as interesting for someone to read. It’s overwhelming at first to see all of the aspects of an academic paper and try to figure out where to start. However, I’ve discovered that writing these reports can be simpler than they seem at first glance when you break the report into parts and focus on reporting the results you’ve worked hard to find. I’ve also gotten the chance to take classes in English and environmental studies that have let me develop my voice in my writing and put together works I’m proud of. As a consultant, I want to help people feel more confident in their writing and realize that writing can be a great way to express themselves!

NAME
Ian Becher
TITLE
Organic Chemistry Tutor
About me
Hello, my name is Ian. I am a junior here at Southwestern University majoring in Biochemistry. My passion for the sciences (especially chemistry) and my love of meeting new people have made me thrilled to be an organic chemistry tutor. NAME
Ashlyn Cadena
TITLE
Calc I & II Tutor
About me
Hi! My name is Ashlyn, and I am a sophomore majoring in Mathematics and minoring in Biology.
Math is a subject that people tend to either hate or love, and a year ago, I was someone who despised it. Numbers don’t always come easy to me, and I’ve always had to work hard to be a better math student. It was through these extra hours that, along with some great professors, I realized that I could thrive in a space I had previously thought wasn’t for me, and at the end of the day I enjoy the journey every math problem takes me.
My hope is that I can help others with their goals in math and mend their relationship with the subject!

NAME
Chandha Dhinaker
TITLE
Biology Tutor
About me
Hello everyone! My name is Chandha, and I am a sophomore majoring in Molecular Biology and minoring in Neuroscience and Health Studies. Aside from working in the DEWC, I’m a proud ZTA service chair (ZLAM!), an animal care technician in the rat lab, and the student engagement coordinator for the biology department. But don’t let my strongly STEM centered academics fool you! My heart lies with liberal arts, my love for writing, and the study of behavior. As a published academic author of the anthropological article Navigating Desi American Cultural Identity, I’ve slowly but surely become obsessed with people- how they think, form bonds, develop identities, and everything and anything in between. This infatuation with the research and writing process is what drew me to the DEWC my freshman year. While I can consume books at an absurd pace, organizing the thoughts in my head into coherent writing is something that’s taken time and practice for me. My hope is that as your writing consultant, I can offer some insight into this process for you! Regardless of where you are in your writing journey, we can traverse that path together. I look forward to seeing you in the writing center!

My goal is to become a CPA, which drives my focus on accounting, a subject I really enjoyed during my coursework.

NAME
Kendyl Feuerbacher
TITLE
German Tutor
About me
Hi! My name is Kendyl Feuerbacher, and I am a sophomore majoring in German and studio art. I decided to become a tutor because I understand how stressful it is to begin a new language. While it may seem difficult with its long words, German is a fun and exciting language to explore. I want to help you to have fun learning this language, culture, and lifestyle as you continue to grow in your Southwestern journey.
While I’ve been on my Southwestern journey, there are plenty of other things I love to do outside of classes. I love to draw, sing, swim, bike, hike, play video games, watch anime, and hang out with all my friends! My favorite learning style is to learn by doing, and one of the ways I figured this out was by doing math homework and playing video games. When you decide to be tutored by me, I would love it if you could say your preferred learning style so I can help you in a more personalized manner.
While this journey at Southwestern is a fun, new experience, we at the Learning Commons are here to help make it a more effortless experience for you. I look forward to working with all of you!

NAME
Camille James
TITLE
Calc I & II Tutor and Computer Science I and Explorations Tutor
About me
Hi! I’m Camille and I’m a Computer Science major with a minor in Data Analytics. I’m a sophomore and am in Southwestern’s Wind Ensemble and Chess Club. I was a tutor for Calculus I last year, and I’ll be a Computer Science I and Calculus I & II tutor this year!
I absolutely love computer science, math, and the creativity both of these fields can bring. But I know that both fields can be daunting when first starting out. It takes a lot of practice to get experience with math and computer science, and these fields can bombard you with negative feedback that can be hard to interpret. I’ve spent hours trying to figure out why I’m getting a math problem wrong or being confused about what an error message on the compiler even means. But getting a wrong answer is inevitable, and even good for you: the learning comes from adjusting your thought process and moving forwards. As a tutor, my goal is to give you the tools you need to interpret your mistakes and know what steps you need to take when solving any problem. Once you gain these skills, computer science and math stop being an impossible task and start to become enjoyable! I hope to help you achieve this and I can’t wait to see you this year!

TITLE

My name is Sam McClure and I am a sophomore. I am a business major and I am also going for a minor in economics and data analytics. I am also a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and the Men’s Golf Team.

NAME
Jack McCoy
TITLE
Accounting Tutor
About me
Hi! I’m Jack McCoy, and I’m a senior here at Southwestern. I am a business major, the treasurer of Kappa Sigma, and one of the subject tutors in the Economics and Business department. My primary subject is Accounting, however I am well versed in Economics too. Through other tutors at SU, I have learned how to take effective notes and study necessary materials. My goal is to help you do the same! I am pretty nonchalant, but I like to think I’m an effective teacher :)
I look forward to assisting you in any of your Accounting or other general Business class needs.

NAME
Arden Neff
TITLE
Computer Science I & II and Explorations Tutor
About me
My name is Arden, and I’m a senior Computational Math major with a minor in Philosophy. This’ll be my second year tutoring Computer Science, as well as my second term serving as Alpha Chi Honor Society President and my fourth year competing with the track and field team. I’m also highly knowledgeable on Gorillaz lore (thank you, 7th grade fanfic obsession), I’m vaguely aware of most of the FNAF storyline, and I love the color green.
When I first took Computer Science here at SU, I was an undecided freshman with zero prior coding experience or knowledge. I wanted to quit after CS1… Other people seemed to just “get it” or had been coding for years, and I was discouraged that nothing clicked for me. I chose to stay because a close friend cared enough to help me build the habits I envied in others without patronizing my lack of knowledge. Since then, I’ve learned how to write good code: I’ve presented operational computing tools at a national convention, participated in a regional programming competition, and secured the industry internship of my dreams. More importantly, I learned the style, habits, and intention behindgood code, and I want to give other students that same knowledge (and encouraging environment) that helped me to love CS in the first place.
I’m here to meet you where you’re at and help you get where you’re going in your comp sci journey– whether that be passing CS1, expanding your understanding of recursion and its applications, interpreting some particularly evil compiler error, or whatever else.

NAME
Rachael Ng
TITLE
Organic Chemistry Tutor
About me
Hi! My name is Rachael Ng and I’m a junior here at Southwestern University. I’m a psychology major and a biology minor on the Pre-Medical Track. I am an Organic Chemistry student tutor in the SLC Learning Commons and am here to help with any questions you have! When I first took Organic Chemistry, the class definitely changed the way my brain approached chemistry in general because there was so much drawing and less math. I struggled for many weeks, trying my best to understand the different mechanisms and reactions by myself but that didn’t help me improve my skills. It wasn’t until I reached out for help from my professor and consistently attending the SciGuide sessions, that I finally grew to ace the concepts in the course and even grew an interest in the topic! So, to break the cycle of Organic Chemistry being the worst class ever, I want to also provide my help to other students who are in the same boat and let them realize just how cool Organic Chemistry really is! Besides being a tutor, I’m also active in other activities on campus. I’m an Organic Chemistry SciGuide, a research assistant in a microbiology research lab, the Vice President for the Pre-Health Organization, the co-founder of the CMCB program, and part of the College YoungLife organization!

NAME
Vedant Polepally
TITLE
General Chemistry Tutor
About me
Hey! My name is Vedant, a sophomore Biochemistry major and Neuroscience/Health Studies minors on the pre-med track. I became a Chemistry tutor because I wanted to alleviate students’ fears going into their introductory chemistry courses. When I first arrived at SU, I had an irrational fear/hate for chemistry after hearing countless horror stories. But through the various STEM resources available on campus, I became confident in the field and excited to learn more. I hope to serve as another resource to better understand the material, perhaps from a different perspective than during lecture, and succeed as a STEM major. I love motorsports, gaming, music, reading (Sci-Fi & historical fiction), and movies, so feel free to bring those up when you see me. I’m also involved in Student Government, Student Activities, the Student Philanthropy Council, and the Megaphone. I look forward to seeing y’all around!

NAME
Jessie Pyatt
TITLE
Biology Tutor
About me
Hi! My name is Jessie, and I am a junior majoring in biology and minoring in animal studies. I am the head captain of our cheerleading squad here at Southwestern, a proud member of our EQUIP scholars, and have recently studied abroad in Australia. I became a tutor at the Learning Commons to be the resource I wish I had during the difficult times of each science course. I also believe that the most effective way to learn is to teach. So, I am excited to work with you all as a biology and chemistry tutor to increase your understanding of the natural world and its workings. I am also happy to help create vocabulary flashcards, concept maps, process diagrams, and other study strategies tailored to each student’s way of thinking.

About me
Salvete omnes! My name is Marley, and I’m excited to be joining the JSLC team this year. I’m a current senior majoring in classics and anthropology and minoring in biology, and I wanted to be a tutor because I love the languages I’ve been learning and want to help facilitate that same enjoyment in other students. Latin and Greek can be helpful for many different disciplines, so teaching them can serve a wide range of purposes for those interested. I’m also involved in many other things on campus, including but not limited to the Classics Club, Mask & Wig, and the theatre and choir performances/productions. I can’t wait to meet you and talk about all things ancient world!

NAME
Eliana Solis
TITLE
Statistics Tutor
About me
Hey! My name is Eliana and I’m a junior this year. I am a Biology major on a pre-med track. I’m also double minoring in Spanish and Race & Ethnicity Studies. Along with being a consultant in the DEWC, I also tutor Intro to Statistics! This will be my second year tutoring for Intro to Stats, so don’t worry, I have you covered.
Many pathways require statistics as a prerequisite, and I know it can be frustrating, but statistics is actually quite interesting. As someone who tends to need slow and repeated exposure when learning math concepts, I know how stressful getting through these classes are. Whether you have the information down and just want someone to make sure you don’t make a mistake, or you’re someone who is taking a bit longer to grasp the material, I’m here to help! This is why I decided to tutor here in the Learning Commons. I’m excited to get to meet you and aid you in your academic career!

NAME
Maricruz Zacharias

About me
Hi, my name is Maricruz. I’m a senior student with a major in Spanish, which is my native language, and a minor in music. I currently work as a substitute teacher in a charter school in Round Rock (in my free time from college), and have been a teacher’s assistant as well, in the beautiful state of Texas.
I love directing school plays, where I can use my skills to introduce children to theater, singing, and dancing.
