Peer Subject Tutor
Applications for 2025-26 are now open.
Peer Subject Tutors in the Score Learning Commons’ Tutoring Center are available to work with students on any course material in a variety of subject areas. It is important to note that subject tutors differ from other supplemental instructors (TAs, Sci Guides, etc.). While SIs and tutors both work to promote student success, SIs generally conduct group study reviews to internalize specific course content, whereas tutors promote independent learning and individual confidence in one-on-one and small group sessions. Working as a tutor involves active listening, sharing study strategies, maintaining an open mind to various learning preferences, and the ability to adapt to various situations. Tutors may also participate in planning and implementing subject-based workshops, mentoring new tutors, and participating in outreach events during the Fall and Spring semesters. While the amount a tutor works can vary based on their discipline, most tutors work two to four hours per week, offering open-hour or appointment-based tutoring.
