Donor-Advised Funds
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a convenient, tax-efficient way to support Southwestern University and other causes you care about. If you already have a DAF, recommending a grant to Southwestern is a simple and powerful way to make a difference in the lives of our students and faculty.
How It Works
A donor-advised fund is like a charitable investment account. You contribute cash, securities, or other assets to a sponsoring organization (such as Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, or a community foundation) and receive an immediate tax deduction. Then, over time, you can recommend grants from the fund to qualified nonprofits, like Southwestern.
Benefits of Giving Through a DAF:
- Simplicity – Manage all your charitable giving from one account
- Tax Efficiency – Receive an immediate income tax deduction and avoid capital gains on donated assets
- Flexibility – Recommend gifts to Southwestern when the time is right for you
- Legacy – Name Southwestern as a successor beneficiary to support the University beyond your lifetime
Ways to Give to Southwestern Through Your DAF:
- Make a one-time or recurring grant
- Designate Southwestern as a beneficiary of your DAF
- Use your DAF to fulfill a multi-year pledge or establish a named fund
