Why Make a Bequest?

  • Simple and Flexible – You can make or update your bequest at any time.

  • No Immediate Cost – Bequests allow you to support Southwestern without affecting your current income or assets.

  • Powerful Impact – Every gift—large or small—supports the University’s long-term strength and sustainability.

Types of Bequests

You can tailor your bequest to fit your personal and financial goals:

  • General Bequest – A specific dollar amount or asset

  • Percentage Bequest – A percentage of your total estate

  • Residual Bequest – Whatever remains after other obligations are met

  • Contingent Bequest – A gift that takes effect only if certain conditions are met
