Named for the year of Southwestern’s founding, the 1840 Society pays tribute to those whose legacies will carry the University forward—ensuring that future generations of students have access to a transformative liberal arts education rooted in intellectual rigor, personal growth, and lifelong learning.

Membership in the 1840 Society

When you notify us that you have included Southwestern in your will, trust, retirement account, life insurance policy, or through another planned giving vehicle, you become a valued member of the 1840 Society.
