Often collaborating with other departments and lectureships, most notably the Fleming Funds in Religious Studies, FST invites prominent scholars, artists, and activists to share their work and insights with the campus community.

The format of these events varies widely, depending on the expertise and interests of the speakers, and has included live performance, student-speaker collaborations, panel discussions, and formal lectures. Topics have ranged from the environmental causes of cancer to analyses of gender in the workplace, from the future of feminist disability studies to anti-racist feminist activism.

The lectures/performances are free and open to the public, and are often followed by receptions or book-signings with the visiting scholars or artists.

While at Southwestern, invited speakers often visit with FST students, both formally and informally, and join FST-affiliated faculty in conversations about feminist thought and practice.

Past speakers include Gloria Anzaldúa, Kate Bornstein, Eli Clare, Bonnie Thorton Dill, Donna Haraway, bell hooks, Chandra Talpede Mohanty, Cherríe Moraga, Minnie Bruce Pratt, and Dorothy Roberts.
