Welcome
College can feel exciting, overwhelming, or sometimes a mix of both. My role is to help students navigate challenges that may come up along the way. Whether you’re feeling stressed, unsure about next steps, or need help connecting with resources on or off campus, I’m here to walk alongside you.
Meet Amanda
I’m a social worker and Southwestern alum. I studied special education before discovering my passion for social work and earned my master’s from Baylor. I’m also a mom, lifelong dancer, and animal rescue volunteer who loves being outdoors and near the water. I approach every meeting with patience, humor, and care—helping people is truly at the heart of what I do.
How I Can Help
You can reach out to me for support with:
- Managing stress, anxiety, or personal challenges
- Accessing academic or disability resources
- Finding community support (housing, mental healthcare, financial help, etc.)
- Talking through options when you’re stuck or unsure
- Staying on track
What to Expect
Your first meeting is simply a conversation. We’ll talk about what’s going on, identify priorities, and make a plan together. Sessions are supportive, judgment-free, and collaborative. What you share stays confidential within the usual limits for health and safety.
Confidentiality
When we meet, what you share stays private. Our sessions are confidential and protected under HIPAA (health privacy) and FERPA (student privacy), with a few exceptions for safety. I’m not a Title IX mandated reporter, which means you can talk with me about sensitive experiences without an automatic report being made. If there are any limits to confidentiality (like if someone is in danger), I’ll always explain those to you.
Case Management vs. Counseling
Both social workers and counselors help people with mental health, personal challenges and life stressors but there’s a key difference. Counselors or therapists usually focus on talking through emotions, coping strategies, and mental health treatment. Social workers do that too, but we also help connect you to resources, support systems, and practical solutions—like housing, financial aid, academic support, or community services—so you have tools both for your mental health and everyday life.
Concerned About Someone Else?
Students, faculty, and staff can also contact me if you’re worried about a friend or student. When appropriate, I can work with Southwestern’s Care Team to map out a coordinated plan of support.
Contact Amanda
No concern is too small. Email me directly to schedule an appointment and include the best days and times for you.
