Majoring

Although Southwestern University does not offer a major in Chinese, it does offer a broad range of courses related to China: from Religious Studies and Philosophy to Economics, History, Art History and Political Science, in addition to the offerings in Chinese.  Those students who wish to further their Chinese studies are encouraged to engage in East Asian Studies, which forms a coherent plan of SU’s significant and diverse resources.

Minor in Chinese: 5 courses
  • CHI22-164 Chinese III: Intermediate Language and Culture
  • CHI22-204 Stories in Chinese
  • Three additional 300-level courses or approved Independent Study courses, minimum of 12 credits required.

Students may register for 2-credit Independent Study courses, to continue the study of Chinese language. Students returning from intensive immersion programs are encouraged to continue their study of Chinese in order to retain advanced language ability.
