Photos by Carlos Barron Jr. ’10 Women’s Soccer, Volleyball Teams Score SOUTHWESTERN’SWOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM completed its best regular season in program history last fall, finishing 15–2–1 and setting anewstandard for the program’s highestwinning percentage at 0.861. In the process, the teamearned its first national ranking inprogramhistory, coming inas highasNo. 21; endedaTrinityUniversity conference-playwinstreak that dated back to 2008; andwon the program's first SouthernCollegiateAthleticConference (SCAC) regular-season title. Headwomen's soccer coach Linda Hamiltonwon her third SCACCoach of the Year award, and freshman Samantha Hazenwas named SCAC Newcomer of the Year. The women’s volleyball team also had a successful season, finishing with a 25–6 record, including 13–4 in conference play. The Pirates were runners-up in the SCAC Tournament and went 1–1 in the NCAA Tournament. “This season we learned we can competewith the best teams in the nation.We've beennationally ranked sinceweek 2, and this is the first time all of us have played in the NCAA Tournament, so this was new for all of us,” says All-Region outside hitter EmmaWhite. “It was really nice to get the at-large bid for our seniors so they could leavewith this experiencewhile our freshmen and sophomores knowwe can come back stronger next year.” 9 SOUTHWESTERN The Southwestern women's soccer and volleyball teams had plenty of reasons to celebrate during their successful seasons.
