Share Your Professional Insights andHelp Students Succeed Southwestern alumni, parents, and donors can share their career expertise with students in a number of ways. In addition to posting job or internship opportunities on the University’s hiring website, alumni can serve in the following roles: • Alumni Network Mentor • Career Trek Sponsor • Employer Advisory Board Member • Expert in Residence • Internship Referral or Host • PirateConnect Contact • Professional Development Speaker • Curious Conversations Participant To learn more about these and other ways you can help students navigate the changing employment landscape, email alumni@ southwestern.edu . “We want alumni and parents to get excited about the new CCPD,” says Frisque. “Sometimes we hear, ‘I am not sure that I have the time to volunteer.’ Some of our volunteer roles are minimal, such as just sharing their story so students can see what’s possible. Career fields are constantly changing, and new jobs are being created. Our students don’t know what’s out there. But alumni and parents know what’s happening in their own career fields, and they can engage the students.” Alumni Council member Chip Evans ’94, P’24 is incoming chair of the Employer Advisory Board and a member of the Alumni Council. Evans is a firm believer in supporting recent graduates and fellow alumni. He and his law partner, Scott Herlihy ’92, try to interview a Southwestern alum for every position they have open. “I have had a million people help me throughout college and my career, Southwestern alumni among them,” says Evans. “Because Southwestern is a smaller university with meaningful connections, if we challenge, activate, and spur the alumni on and give them a vehicle to help current students and recent grad- uates, we will help make the connection to Southwestern last. They will be more engaged as we develop a lifelong relationship.” The Dumes brothers spoke about their time at Southwestern, described their path as entrepreneurs, and answered questions from students. 38 SOUTHWESTERN
