A Brighter Tomorrow Beginning Today by Cl ara McMichael '17 Southwestern’s 2021–2026 Tactical Plan offers an exciting vision for the future. CADEN COX ’23 WAS ONE OF THE ONLY students who stayed on campus when the pandemic hit. Cox is from Centerville, Texas, a town halfway between Dallas and Houston with a population of under 900. “I don’t have internet where I live,” says Cox. “I couldn't complete classes online, so there was nowhere for me to go.” Cox is involved in what seems like nearly every faction of campus life, from student government to the Honor Code Council to his fraternity, Kappa Sigma. The communications major and political science, business, and theatre minor also works three different jobs (two on-campus, one off). When Southwestern’s 2021–2026 Tactical Plan was released in the summer of 2021, Cox was relieved to see one item that would directly improve his university experience: a wage increase for students. “The number one thing for me is student employment,” said Cox. “I work three jobs just to get by because it’s not like my family has a whole lot of money just lying around.” Caden Cox '23 was able to combine his two on-campus jobs by participating in an Admissions video produced by the Marketing and Communications Department. n 24 SOUTHWESTERN
